Dr. Ruth Cherry Swint has been a member of the Georgia State Beauty Culturist League, Inc., for over sixty years and has served as our state president for forty-eight years.
She was a visionary in the twentieth century and a legend in the twenty-first. She is a mentor, leader, and friend. Now that she has moved on to another chapter in her life, we, the members of GSBCL, will truly miss her.
She was introduced to the GSBCL and the Macon Beauty Culturists’ League by cosmetology instructor Ms. Bessie Walker in 1956. Dr. Swint affiliated herself along this magnificent career with many organizations and founded a few, such as a member of Toastmasters, Greater Macon Women Business Owners, State of Georgia Small Business Development under Gov. Joe Frank Harris, founding member of Georgia’s Association of Minority Entrepreneurs (GAME), Co-founder of Black Youth and Entrepreneurs Program of the University of Georgia and with all that had time to own and operate Ruth’s Hair Fashion (Macon).
Her success with the National Beauty Culturists’ League, Inc., extends to serving as 4th Vice President under Dr. Katie B. Wickham, 2nd Vice President under Dr. Cleolis Richardson, 2nd Vice President under Dr. Wanda Nelson, and presently Chairman of Finance under Dr. Katie B. Catalon.
Thank you, Dr. Swint, for being a true pioneer and leader for God, family, Georgia State Beauty Culturist League, Inc., and the community. There’s more to her than us; the page would be too long, but we wanted you to know how dedicated this President was and is to the organization, and we thank her family for sharing her with us. We love you, Dr. Swint, and there’s nothing you can do about it!! May you always have the favor of God’s love shine upon you.
