The Georgia State Beauty Culturist League was organized in Atlanta in 1946 at the YWCA on Boulevard N. E. The members represented many cities.
Mrs. Ella Ramsey Martin of Atlanta was elected President; Mrs. E. Fostine Bignon, Savannah- 1st Vice President; Mrs. Beuhler Cooke Hunter, Atlanta-Recording Secretary; Mrs. Beatrice Latimer, Augusta-Financial Secretary; Mrs. Eddie Mae Sherman, Atlanta-Corresponding Secretary; Miss Millie M. Shanks, Atlanta-Treasurer; Mrs. Pinkie Winfrey, Atlanta-Chaplin.
Georgia State Beauty Culturist League holds membership in the National Beauty Culturists' League, Inc. headquarters, 25 Logan Circle N.W., Washington, D.C; the state charter was issued on March 29, 1949.
Mrs. Marion Crowder of Columbus, Ga., was elected President in 1971. She also served as an instructor at the National Institute of Cosmetology. Under her four years of service, the Educational Clinic was established as an annual program for state conventions. Mrs. Myrtle M. Martin of Atlanta was appointed as clinic chairman. She made it possible for all licensed beauticians, rural and urban, to have opportunities to participate and learn the latest in the field of Beauty Culture.
Mrs. Ruth C. Swint of Warner Robins, Ga., was elected President in 1976 and continues to organize chapters and lead an increasing number of delegates to the Regional and National conventions. The state organization's improved efficiency is noted. Under her administration, the state home was paid for and renovated.
